Shibari Life Drawing with Burgundy Rose

An evening life drawing class with shibari peformer Burgundy Rose, held in the Every Body's Story exhibition space.

About this event

Join tutor an artist Beth Kirby and shibari perfomer Burgundy Rose for different kind of intimate life drawing class in the Every Body's Story exhibition space at Centrespace Gallery in the heart of Bristol.

You will be surrounded by 30 golden torso casts by women's body casting artist Ellen Downes. In this space we will celebrate the diversity and beauty of women's bodies and explore how we can connect to our bodies through movement.

About the Class

This is life drawing with a difference! Shibari is the Japanese art of intricate rope bondage, and our experienced performer and model Burgundy Rose will demonstrate this beautiful practice to music, whilst holding poses of 5-20 minutes to draw from. Beth, an artist and life drawing tutor, will introduce and guide you through the class and poses, but the class is not "tutored" in the traditional sense. This class is about your experience with the model and poses and how you perceive them, through the action of drawing. All abilities are more than welcome.

- Paper and some materials will be provided at no extra charge, but please feel free to bring any sketchbooks, surfaces or materials that you wish.

- The class is 90 minutes, with a short break in the middle.

- You are not required to wear a mask once seated at this event, unless you want to

- Please bring your own water

About Every Body’s Story:

Women’s Body Casting Artist Ellen Downes has cast 30 women’s torsos and painted them gold. The golden body casts will be exhibited alongside the stories of the women behind them.

This is a project celebrating the beauty and diversity of women's bodies and a platform for the stories behind them.

We are rejecting unrealistic beauty standards, debunking myths and raising our voices to share women's experiences and stories that need to be told.

In a world where women's bodies are perpetually objectified, this body of work objectifies our bodies in a beautiful way, on our terms.

Diversity is at the heart of this project. The 30 women collectively tell stories of what it means to live in a woman's body from a range of perspectives. Their stories explore their relationships with their bodies through themes such as body image, motherhood, race, sexuality, menstruation, trauma, coming of age, grief, mental health, disability and self-love.

Join Every Body's Story at Centrespace Gallery in the heart of Bristol to see this powerful collection of golden casts and stories of women.
