INHABIT Project, 2024.

Part-residency, part-performance, part-participant piece, Inhabit is the latest solo project from Bristol-based artist, Beth Kirby.

Taking place at 17 Midland Road, Bristol over one week, I inhabited the gallery space as a studio and workplace, continually filling the surfaces of the gallery with work, the subjects of which were the inhabitants of Bristol.

A roster of professional life models and volunteer members of the public joined me artist in the space throughout the week, being drawn from life and allowing the previously empty space to fill with life

Throughout the week, I was be viewable through the windows of the closed gallery, creating and installing each piece as it comes, culminating in an exhibition on Saturday the 12th and Sunday 13th October.

This project was an intense undertaking and a new departure for me, resulting in drawing 30 individuals and producing over 100 pieces of work in just four days. I found that many unexpected developments and organic changes happened throughout the week, so I decided to record and document my findings in a self-published book, Inhabit: The Book, which outlines the experience day by day in a diary format, and includes and essay reflecting on the project.
