One of all the walls I painted for the ‘Readers Wives’ mural in the Dame.

‘Readers Wives’ Mural, The Dame, 2023.

I was contacted by a new pub in Bedminster, Bristol to create an interior mural for them. The Dame is part-owned by Andre Seidel, who owns and runs Bristol ‘s Campus skateparks, and this latest venture is directly opposite historical and famous Bristol skate spot, Dean Lane skatepark.

The intention for the Dame is to create a space for skateboarding, art and music in an inclusive atmosphere, and the pub has a great energy and I’m so happy to say it’s doing extremely well. Bristol needs to continue to produce alternative and grassroots spaces, as property developers slowly turn the city into endless expensive flats.

The reference I used for these drawings was from the Reader’s Wives section of a collection of 80s adult magazines I have. The mural is situation in a dark room between the pub and the smoking area, and we decided to add a red filter to the light, giving the space a ‘den of iniquity’ vibe which I love.
