Alba, Small Bar, King St, Bristol, 2023. (C) Beth Kirby.
‘Alba’ Mural, Bristol, 2023.
I was contacted by Small Bar, a craft beer pub on Bristol’s famous 17th Century drinking hub, King Street.
Having already created a mural back in 2020, we decided it was high time for a refresh. Small Bar is clearly seen when entering King Street from the Centre, so I decided to do something eye-catching in monochrome. The team at Small Bar were happy for me to have full creative control, hence the nudity!
Created in emulsion, spray paint and ink, I used a reference sketch created in my life drawing class of a model called Lou. I loved the almost-bored, calm look of the model which is reflected in my sketch, and then this mural. The piece was immediately covered by local news, resulting in hilarious feedback from the public.
